CHARGE THE COIL // PRIVACY
Built for play. Not for tracking.
CHARGE THE COIL uses a small anonymous guest profile to run your career and the shared world ranking. It has no ads, no third-party tracking and no separate game account sign-up.
Effective 13 August 2026
Who runs the game
CHARGE THE COIL is made and operated by Lifthill Studio / Thomas Geelens in The Netherlands (KVK 83559752). Questions can be sent to hello@lifthill.studio.
What the game collects
When you first play, the game creates an anonymous guest identifier, an authentication token and an original generated coaster name. The server stores a one-way hash of the token, not the readable token itself.
To provide your career and global ranking, we store your platform, submitted gameplay timing, run outcomes, score, COILS, career rank and progress, best run, number of verified runs, game configuration version and related timestamps.
When you play while logged in on Reddit, the Devvit app uses your Reddit user ID only inside Reddit's server environment to derive a one-way SHA-256 storage key. The raw ID and your Reddit username are never sent to our Cloudflare game service or shown on the leaderboard. Devvit Redis stores the opaque game token and a limited set of game preferences—such as tutorial state, selected circuit, career snapshot and prepared run queue—for up to 30 days after your last activity in that community. Logged-out Reddit play falls back to version-local browser storage.
Short-lived service logs contain limited request, response and error metadata—such as a request path, status or run-ticket identifier—to keep the ranking available, secure it and diagnose failures. Authentication tokens and submitted timing bodies are not written to our custom error logs.
If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to include in your email. The game itself does not ask for your real name, email address, contacts, photos, microphone, precise location or payment information.
Why we use it
The data is used only for app functionality: to verify runs fairly, save the anonymous career on the same installation, show the shared leaderboard, prevent duplicate or manipulated scores, keep the service secure and answer support requests.
Sharing and tracking
We do not sell personal data, build advertising profiles or track you across apps and websites. The game contains no advertising SDK.
Cloudflare processes and stores the game API and leaderboard data on our behalf. Reddit hosts the Devvit app and its installation-scoped Redis data under Reddit's own policies. Apple processes App Store purchase and distribution information under Apple's policies. The web edition is distributed through itch.io, which may process visits to its own website under its policy.
Your choices and deletion
Web, iOS and Reddit careers are intentionally separate and do not sync across devices or community installations, although all verified players share the same world ranking. In the game, open Circuit and choose Start New Career to permanently delete the current anonymous server identity and its associated runs, tickets, score and career totals. The local guest token and run queue are cleared; on Reddit, the linked Devvit Redis token and preferences are also removed. A completely new guest career is then created.
Restricted infrastructure backups may retain a copy for a limited recovery period before automatic expiry. You can also contact us for a privacy request, although without the anonymous guest token we may be unable to connect a request to a particular career.
Security and changes
Connections use HTTPS, authentication tokens are stored securely on iOS or behind the private Devvit server on Reddit, and submitted scores are replay-verified by the game service. No internet system is perfectly secure, but access is limited to what is needed to operate the game.
If this policy changes materially, the effective date on this page will be updated. The current policy is always available at this address.
